Provide Video Phone Solution For SARS Patients
To "See" Loved Ones SARS, a highly contagious
disease, places patients in the isolated wards of PMH where visitors are
not allowed. As part of the "Video Visit Service", some InnoMedia
IP videophones have been set up in the hospital to enable the patients
to establish face-to-face communication with their loved ones. The videophones
come equipped with a TFT colour LCD, enabling users to view and communicate
with the remote party over a broadband access network. This allows quarantined
patients to be regularly updated on developments outside the hospital
while loved ones are also kept in-the-know of the patient's recovery progress. "By the same token, InnoMedia is currently in discussion with the relevant hospitals and authorities for a similar concept to be implemented in Singapore," added Mr. Ng. Speaking of the initiative, Mr. Gerald Ma, Director of CK Communications Limited said, "Cheung Kong is eager to support and help the patients at PMH, their family members, and the public amid the many problems raised by the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong by working with our partner InnoMedia". Each videophone is assigned with a telephone number, much like a regular telephone. User calls the remote party by picking up the handset and dialing the remote party's telephone number. The user is able to make and receive video calls from other videophones and regular voice calls from regular telephone such as mobile or regular home phone. For calls to and from such regular voice phones, only voice is transmitted. The video telephony service is powered by a sophisticated NGN architecture, consisting of call agents, backend servers, gateways and various network components. InnoMedia also contributed expertise in designing, integrating and commissioning the network for this initiative. About InnoMedia
